Needlepoint Showcase at the Columbus Show
The Needlepoint Group offered something entirely
new this year ahead of the main TNNA trade show in Columbus: the debut of our "Needlepoint Showcase". Featuring the latest work from the most sought after designers, all newly finished by the finest craftspeople in the country and displayed in a unique format located in the foyer of the main ballroom. Formally dressed waiters continually offered an array of mouth watering appetizers while three individual bar stations presented a variety of liquid refreshments.
Unlike anything previously
seen, the new "Showcase" offered everyone an unusual
opportunity to view the latest designs as uniquely finished
products opening new possibilities for retailers and their
customers. Attendees were able to spend quality time with
their favorite artists in a relaxed atmosphere, a world
away from the hustle and bustle of the main show set to
begin the following morning.
Armed with his camera, NPG
Chair and photographer Warren "Pete" Poitras captured
the artists as they prepared their displays so that everyone
could see the "Showcase" whether or not they made
it to the show this year. Speaking of not making it to Columbus,
the only photo without the artist or owner turned out to
be Lee's NeedleArts. It seems the owner, Jim Collingham,
got stuck for 12 hours at La Guardia airport so he wasn't
able to make the showcase. Although we missed him Friday
evening, his plane finally made it to Columbus and he was
there, bright and chipper, for the trade show opening Saturday
morning.
The image labeled "The
Flasher" was taken Monday morning on the trade show
floor. As if there was ever any doubt that Barry Beardslee
of Presencia USA has a sense of humor, here's all the proof
anyone needs. Great job, Barry!
